What: NAVIGATE Mentoring Program - The DECS Wellbeing Framework for school students outlines key risk and protective factors which impact on the lives of young people. The Navigate program seeks to effectively develop in students these protective factors through positive relationships and create opportunities for success beyond school life.
For Whom: Available to all students, from primary through to high school.
Why: Mentoring aims to provide a structured and trusting relationship that brings young people together with caring individuals who offer guidance, support and encouragement aimed at developing the competence and character of the mentee. National Youth Mentoring Benchmarks 2007
By Whom: The Christian Pastoral Support Worker coordinates a team of supportive adults drawn from a range of local Christian churches.
When & How Often: Once a week for 45 minutes, over a term.
Where: A comfortable space for the student - a classroom, the CPS Workers office, the school yard, for example.
What is involved: Structured sessions on specific topics according to the individual needs of the student as determined by the school and CPS Worker. Opportunity to build a relationship based on trust and shared experience that results in the student gaining confidence and skills to cope with growth and change.
