Why We Do It

PDF Print E-mail

Everyone experiences tough times throughout life. Many children and young people however, do not always have the resilience, knowledge, skills and support to get through the tough times they face. Instead, these tough times can leave them feeling overwhelmed, alone and helpless. The old African proverb states that it takes a village to raise a child. Children and young people need a network of positive adult role models in their lives to best support their development and wellbeing.

Through the work of CPS Workers in schools, seminars, support groups, and camping programs, SMG aims to provide children and young people with access to positive adult role models, who provide care, support, skill development, hope and values to children and young people across the state. We aim to help children and young people in their discovery of who they are and to help them discover purpose and meaning for their lives.

SMG strongly supports the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child that each child has the right to a happy childhood, to be protected against all forms of neglect, abuse and exploitation, and have the means and opportunities to develop physically, spiritually, morally, mentally, and socially in a healthy and normal manner.
