Breakfast Clubs are programs run before school with the primary aim to provide a healthy breakfast to students, sharing skills of food preparation and good nutrition. Breakfast Clubs provide opportunities for CPS Workers to connect and build positive relationships with students and staff. Breakfast Clubs can be held once a week, or up to five days a week, depending on the needs of the school and the resources available. Run by a combination of CPS Workers / students / local church volunteers / teachers, Breakfast Clubs are open to any student interested, and are designed to be friendly places that are inclusive to all.

Breakfast Clubs are run with the aim of providing a healthy and nutritious breakfast for students who would not necessarily get this at home. With this program comes the chance for the students to practically learn about good nutrition and healthy eating.

The Breakfast Club environment provides an opportunity to share and interact positively over a meal with students, staff, CPS Workers, parents, and local community members. Students have the opportunity to develop positive networks within the school and with the wider community in a non-threatening environment.

Research has demonstrated that students who have breakfast are able to concentrate better during the school morning. Breakfast Clubs can add to the well being of the school community by fostering good nutrition, skill development, helping students to make healthy choices, and by building positive relationships between students and teaching staff and volunteers from the community and local churches.  Breakfast Clubs can come in many different styles. Each Breakfast Club should be designed to suit the needs of the school community. There are many elements that can help shape the Breakfast Club to suit your school. These include:

-       The number of days a week the program is run

-       Whether it is held inside or outside

-       Whether it is a sit down or stand up breakfast

-       Whether it is self-served or whether volunteers serve it up

-       Whether there are activities / competitions held

-       Whether there is music in the background
